PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION

Richard Olson has been providing psychotherapy services for almost three decades to diverse client populations.  He is a graduate of Hunter College of The City University of New York and The Institute for Human Identity, where he provided clinical supervision to staff and functioned as the Director of Student Training. 
Trained in a wide variety of therapeutic techniques, he takes an individualized, specific approach based upon the needs of his clients. He has been conducting group psychotherapy specifically focusing on men’s issues since the 1980s. He has extensive experience assisting individuals in the LGBTQ community confronting their own or a loved one’s alcohol abuse.  He also has extensive experience working with gay men exploring their sexual impulsivity.  
Other areas of expertise include issues around aging, chronic mental illness and its impact on the family system, challenges faced by the 
immigrant and refugee community, assisting individuals exposed to trauma, and a wide variety of issues of concern to the LGBT community.
